Week In Books – w/e 29/4/18

Week In Books is a feature where I catch you up on my week in the book world, whether it be new books I’ve one-clicked, books that have caught my eye, book-world news, reviews, and what I’ve been reading that week. I’d love to see your own Week In Books in the comments!

————-

I actually managed to fit in some reading time this week – yay! It’s also been a pretty great week for book news. Check out my Week In Books below…

I’ve finally dived into Love And Other Words by the amazing writing duo Christina Lauren! I’d been hearing nothing but great things so I was insanely excited to start it.

This week I set up a What’s Next? collection on my Kindle app and I went through ALL the books on my kindle and picked out ones which caught my eye the most, some recent buys, some from years ago! I also have a FBBF18 collection which has books from authors attending the Four Brits Book Fest 18 event I co-organise, so I’ll be going between the two collections over the next few months when picking my next read.

Here’s a few suggestions from my collections… Truth Or Beard by Penny Reid, Taking Chances by Laura Farr, Six Of Hearts by LH Cosway, The Man In The Black Suit by Sylvain Reynard, Captive In The Dark by CJ Roberts, Preppy Part 3 by TM Frazier, Loving Mr Daniels by Brittainy C Cherry, Bullet by Jade C Jamison, and On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves, just to name a few!

It’s going to be a tough one, any advice??

  • I finally got some reading time in and I devoured The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz which releases in June. You’ll have to wait a bit longer for my review but it was a solid 4 stars – fans of the Original Sinners series will love this Kingsley spin off!
  • Joanna Wylde’s latest book in her Reaper’s series released! Rome’s Chance is a novella and I’m so excited to dive in now it’s on my kindle!
  • I reviewed The Sea Of Tranquility by Katja Millay this week – it’s been over 5 years since I first read it so I figured it’s about time I put up a 5 star review!
  • Tarryn Fisher has a new release coming in just one month with Willow Aster who are writing under the name Fisher & Aster. Check out the cover reveal of Folsom!
  • The first book in Sophie Kinsella‘s Shopaholic series is currently just 0.99!! This is my favourite Chick Lit series! So many laughs!!
  • Natasha Preston has a new release titled Lie To Me! I am in love with this cover and I can’t wait to read this one!
  • A new author on my radar this week is Jessica Ruben whose debut novel releases May 1st. Rising is available for pre-order and definitely one to watch!
  • Max Monroe have a sale on! Sex Says is just 0.99! Snap it up before it increases!
  • A Boy Like You by Ginger Scott is also just 0.99 and it looks so great, I couldn’t resist snapping it up myself.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, make sure you check back for the next Week In Books, and sign up to my blog to receive email updates!

Cover Reveal – FOLSOM by Fisher & Aster

One of my favourites, Taryn Fisher, has a new book on the horizon, but this time as part of writing duo Fisher & Aster with the talented Willow Aster! Folsom is a contemporary romance with a side of dystopian, and it’s set to release in one months time!

The nation as we know it is a thing of the past.

With the male species on the verge of extinction, a society called the End Men is formed to save the world. Folsom Donahue is one of twelve men whose sole purpose is to repopulate the Regions. The endless days spent having sex with strangers leaves Folsom with an emptiness no amount of women, money, or status can fill.

Until Gwen.

Gwen has wanted a child for as long as she can remember, but when she finally gets a chance to have her own, she uncovers a long hidden truth. The injustice she sees moves her to help save the men whom no one else believes need saving.

A forbidden love, grown in a time of despair, ignites a revolution.

Folsom and Gwen, torn between their love for each other and their sense of duty, must make a choice. But some will stop at nothing to destroy them.

Folsom is book one of the End of Men series.

Review – THE SEA OF TRANQUILITY by Katja Millay

An oldie but a goodie!

I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.

Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

I bought and read The Sea Of Tranquility on January 2nd 2013, and I have re-read it numerous times over the years. It’s one of those New Adult books which never gets old, never loses its power to create such intense passion and emotion in its reader. I don’t think there’s been a single time since that very first, that I haven’t cried at least once while reading it.

Nastya and Josh’s story is one that everyone who loves angsty and emotional books needs to read. It has had me hooked every time I’ve read it, desperate to read more, to continue reliving their heartbreaking and beautiful tale. And to this day, it still has the very best last line of any book I’ve ever read! (But don’t be a cheater and read that first!!)

It’s now been over 5 years since the book first released, and unluckily for fans, Katja Millay has seemingly disappeared from the book world, leaving The Sea Of Tranquility to be the first and only book this incredibly talented writer has published. Katja, if you just so happen to see this, we still love your words, we miss you, and thank you.

I still plan on reading Christina Lauren’s latest release, Love And Other Words, but in 2 days Joanna Wylde will be releasing Rome’s Chance which is a novella set in her Reaper’s series which I LOVE!! So I might fit in a quickie with Rome before I jump into the emotion of the latest CLo!

Week In Books – w/e – 15/4/18

Week In Books is a feature where I catch you up on my week in the book world, whether it be new books I’ve one-clicked, books that have caught my eye, book-world news, reviews, and what I’ve been reading that week. I’d love to see your own Week In Books in the comments!

I have finally started my ARC of The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz, and I couldn’t more excited to be back in the world of the Original Sinners. I’ve only just started it so no real views yet, but I’m positive it’s going to be another amazing read from this author.

I’m thinking it’s going to have to be the fantastic writing duo Christina Lauren’s latest release, Love And Other Words. I’ve heard nothing but incredible things about this one, it’s not like anything they’ve written before and I’m itching to dive in.

  • So as you just saw, Christina Lauren released Love And Other Words on Tuesday. You can still read the prologue, chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, and Chapter four over on their blog.
  • Michelle Leighton (formerly writing as M Leighton) has released her first book in quite some time titled The Dandelion. This looks to be a heartbreaking second chance love story – a definite one-click!
  • Another new release came from Jewel E Ann – she released the second book in her Transcend duo, Epoch. All my book friends rave about this series so Transcend and Epoch are high on my TBR!
  • Sally Thorne has a new book coming out in January 2019 (I know it’s age away!!) and you can pre-order it now! It’s called 99 Percent Mine and even the title makes me excited to read it!
  • Ricochet by Kerri Lake is on sale for just 99p! I really liked this one, it’s a dark standalone antihero romance.
  • Meghan Quinn’s book Three Blind Dates is just 99p for a matter of days so you need to snap this one up!!
  • There’s a new Reapers MC novella coming!!!! I am crazy obsessed with this series and Rome’s Chance by Joanna Wylde is releasing on April 24th! I cannot wait!!!
  • Kate Stewart has a new book out! It’s called The Real and I’ve heard it’s another epic romance which is sure to bring tears!
  • I got 2 reviews up on the blog this week! First up was Pepper Winters’ latest, The Boy And His Ribbon, and OMG you guys, it was beyond incredible. Read my 5 star review and get clicking! It’s a must!!
  • And I finally reviewed the awesome Rock Chick series by the Queen Kristen Ashley. I gave the series an overall 4 stars but there’s a few hidden 5 stars within. I’m sad the series is over but if anyone hasn’t yet met the Hot Bunch, have a read of my review and dive in!

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, make sure you check back for the next Week In Books, and sign up to my blog to receive email updates!

Review – ROCK CHICK SERIES by Kristen Ashley

I have been a fan of the Rock Chick series by Kristen Ashley for a long time now, and as I was reading the very last book which released this week, I realised I had yet to review this series! So here I am, with a quick, spoiler free full series review from one of the most fun fictional worlds I’ve ever been a part of. Happy reading.

Indy Savage, cop’s daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy’s employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he’s interested, Indy’s decided she’s not. But she can’t seem to keep Lee out of her life when she’s repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she’s finding dead bodies).

Indy’s best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee’s challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

It was about 4 years ago when I picked up my first Rock Chick book and I immediately became hooked, powering through the series like there was no tomorrow. No one writes alphas like Kristen Ashley does, she is the ultimate queen, and the Hot Bunch are some of my absolute favourites! And let’s not forget the kick ass heroines she writes either. The Rock Chicks give you endless amounts of laughs and crazy adventures, with countless tasers, shootings, and kidnappings.

Each book focuses on a different Rock Chick and her chosen Hot Bunch member, though we always get to see the whole gang in each book, and they are all just as loveable as the last. Eddie Chavez the sexy Mexican American police officer from book 2 was my favourite throughout the entire series, but then after book 8 we finally got Daisy and Marcus’ story (though it’s technically a prequel novella) and suddenly my heart was split in two by the most unlikely of character. *dreamy sigh*

And then to celebrate the authors 50th birthday, she surprised us with the book we have spent years begging for – Shirleen. She’s a favourite to everyone and I cannot tell you how happy I was to see her get her HEA. The series now officially feels complete, though I will continue to revisit the gang when I feel the need for an adventure. And now I mention it…

ROCK CHICK SERIES – Out Now!
Rock Chick Reawakening #0.5 | Rock Chick #1 | Rock Chick Rescue #2 | Rock Chick Redemption #3 | Rock Chick Renegade #4 | Rock Chick Revenge #5 | Rock Chick Reckoning #6 | Rock Chick Regret #7 | Rock Chick Revolution #8 | Rock Chick Reborn #9

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Review – THE BOY AND HIS RIBBON by Pepper Winters

Another truly gripping read from Pepper Winters. The Boy And His Ribbon is a must read!!

“What do you do when you meet your soul mate? No wait…that’s too easy. What do you do when you meet your soul mate and have to spend a lifetime loving him in secret?

I’ll tell you what you do.

You lie.”

REN

Ren was eight when he learned that love doesn’t exist—that the one person who was supposed to adore him only cared how much he was worth.

His mother sold him and for two years, he lived in terror.

But then…he ran.

He thought he’d run on his own. Turned out, he took something of theirs by accident and it became the one thing he never wanted and the only thing he ever needed.

DELLA

I was young when I fell in love with him, when he switched from my world to my everything.

My parents bought him for cheap labour, just like they had with many other kids, and he had the scars to prove it.

At the start, he hated me, and I could understand why.

For years he was my worst enemy, fiercest protector, and dearest friend.

But by the end…he loved me.

The only problem was, he loved me in an entirely different way to the way I loved him.

And slowly, my secret drove us apart.

Pepper Winters is known for writing big books, and the fact that I read this book in one day, is testament to just how truly brilliant The Boy And His Ribbon is. I was instantly sucked into Ren and Della’s heartbreaking story of forbidden love, and the more I read, the tighter both my chest and throat felt from trying to hold in the emotion.

This is a two part series, so if you’re completely against reading books with unresolved endings, then I advise you to wait until June when book 2 releases, but if you’re happy either way then please read this book!! It is so powerful and moving and utterly heart-rendering.

This book spans 18 years, and in those years I read a story not like any I’ve read before. A story I didn’t realise I wanted to know – no, scrap that – a story I didn’t realise I needed to know until I turned that first page. A story that only Pepper Winters could tell. And tell it she did. A very worthy 5 star read. Bring on The Girl And Her Ren.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero the better and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby (who speaks French—hot!) who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends. She loves to hear from her readers so hit her up at pepperwinters@gmail.com

Week In Books – w/e 8/4/18

Week In Books is a feature where I catch you up on my week in the book world, whether it be new books I’ve one-clicked, books that have caught my eye, book-world news, reviews, and what I’ve been reading that week. I’d love to see your own Week In Books in the comments!

I’ve just dived into Pepper Winters’ latest, The Boy And His Ribbon, which I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about. It released this week and true to Pepper’s style it’s a long one so I expect I’ll spend most of the week (between work and kids) reading it. Anyone else reading this one too?

It’s more than likely going to be my ARC of The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz. For any newbies to my blog, I am a crazy huge Tiffany Reisz fan, and her Original Sinners is one of my very very favourite series. It’s impossible not to love Kingsley so I’m so excited to be jumping back into the world of my favourite pervert.

  • Christina Lauren, revealed two more chapters from the book they are releasing on April 10th called Love And Other Words. (In case you missed my previous post you can check out the prologue, chapter one, and chapter two) Now you can also read chapter three, and Chapter four!
  • Mariana Zapata’s book Rhythm, Chord And Malykhin is currently on sale (at time of posting) for just £1.99! This is a HUGE sale for this book so grab it quick!
  • 5 star 99p sale alert!!! Drive by Kate Stewart is a book everyone should read, and (at the time of posting) it’s less than a pound!! This was my joint favourite book of 2017 and you can find my 5 star review right here!
  • The ultimate Queen Of the Alphas, Kristen Ashley, turned 50 this week, and to celebrate she revamped the covers of the entire Rock Chick series, put them all on sale, AND she gave us a new book!!! Shirleen finally gets herself a well deserved HEA and I absolutely loved it!! You can check out my post about all this by going here, and keep an eye out next week where I’ll have a Rock Chick full series review!
  • And finally, I finished One Day In December by Josie Silver and it was just the most incredible, heartbreaking and heartwarming read. You guys, it took me a while to recover from this one, and as the book doesn’t release until September, the publisher wants me to hold off on reviewing on my blog until closer to that time, but I can post on Goodreads, which I will be doing this week when I can find the right words. This is a major must buy!

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, make sure you check back for the next Week In Books, and sign up to my blog to receive email updates!

Surprise – ROCK CHICK REBORN by Kristen Ashley

I am freaking out with all the excites I got when I saw that Kristen Ashley (the Queen of alphas) has released a new book in her AMAZING Rock Chick series, and it’s all about the one and only Shirleen!! The whole series has had a cover makeover, and the previous 8 books are on sale!! Check it all out below, and happy reading!

As a Rock Chick, Shirleen Jackson lived through all the kidnappings and explosions. Along the way, she also watched the dramatic love stories that came with those rides unfold.

But long ago, Shirleen made her choice. It affected who she was and would always be. She decided to settle for what she had and not want more. She had good friends. She was raising two fine young men who weren’t hers, but she loved them anyway.

She was good.

And then Moses Richardson crashed into her life, literally…and deliberately.

Moses has different ideas about Shirleen. He’s more interested in the Shirleen of now, mostly because she’s interesting. And funny. And loyal. Smart. Beautiful.

But Moses has a big challenge on his hands.

He has to convince Shirleen of all that.

And then convince her she deserves to have more.

Week In Books – w/e 1/4/18

Week In Books is a feature where I catch you up on my week in the book world, whether it be new books I’ve one-clicked, books that have caught my eye, book-world news, reviews, and what I’ve been reading that week. I’d love to see your own Week In Books in the comments!

I asked and you guys responded! One Day In December by Josie Silver was chosen to be my next read and I am loving it! I laughed from page one, and I can’t wait to see where this book goes next. One Day In December is Josie’s debut novel and it’s set to release on September 1st for Kindle, and October for paperback/hardcover. I am so in love with this cover.

Edited to add: Oh god, you guys. This book has taken on a whole new path I did not expect. My poor heart. It doesn’t know whether to soar or flatline. I can’t put it down.

So I’m thinking it’s going to be between my ARCs of The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz (more Kingsley – yes please!!!), and The Boy And His Ribbon by Pepper Winters. It’s another impossible choice as they both look amazing, so again, I’m going to need your help!! Which should I go for??

  • The amazing writing duo, Christina Lauren, are releasing a new book on April 10th called Love And Other Words, and in the lead up to its release, they’ve been revealing chapters on their website! You can check out the prologue, chapter one, and chapter two!
  • Monica Murphy released a new book called Her Defiant Heart exclusively on iBooks! Unfortunately that does mean that for the time being (or forever?) you can’t read it anywhere else, but YAY for a new Monica Murphy book!!
  • FREE BOOK ALERT!! BB Easton’s novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men is currently free at the time of posting!! I’ve heard amazing things about this book and author so I’ve just snapped this up!!
  • I posted two new reviews on the blog this week, and both were 5 stars!! Oh, it’s good to have my reading mojo back! First up was Drive by Kate Stewart, sexy and gritty and angsty perfection! And then there was The Watermark by Tiffany Reisz which is found in the Exposed anthology, Søren’s sometimes sub, Simone, finds herself a secretly kinky cowboy! Full of Reisz’s signature style, it’s a must read for all Original Sinners fans!
